Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-09-10
These terms are a contract between you and Trips. They explain what Trips is, what we expect from you, and what you can expect from us. Please read at least Sections 4 and 5: they set out what Trips does not do.
1. Who we are and when these terms apply
“Trips” is a mobile app and website where drivers post already-planned intercity rides and passengers book a seat in them. The platform is operated by [[juridinio asmens pavadinimas, kodas, buveinės adresas]] (hereinafter “we”, “Trips”).
The terms take effect when you create an account or start using the service. Together with the Privacy Policy they form the entire agreement between us. If you do not agree with them, do not create an account and do not use the platform.
The authentic version of these terms is the Lithuanian-language version. Translations into other languages are provided for convenience; in the event of a discrepancy, the Lithuanian version prevails.
2. Definitions
- Platform: the Trips app, website, and related services.
- Driver: a user who has posted a ride in their own or a lawfully operated vehicle.
- Passenger: a user who books a seat in a posted ride.
- Ride: a posted route with a departure time, stops, and number of seats.
- Segment: a part of a ride between two stops. A passenger can book not the whole route but only the segment they need; the price is then calculated in proportion to the distance.
- Booking: a passenger’s request for a seat and the driver’s response to it.
- Boarding code: a four-digit code that the passenger shows the driver when boarding.
- Cost contribution: the amount a passenger pays the driver, covering part of the ride’s actual costs. This is not the price of a transport service.
3. Account
- Age. Trips is for adults only: you must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the platform, whether as a passenger or a driver. When you create an account you confirm that you are 18 or older; we record only the moment of that confirmation; we do not ask for or store your date of birth.
- Real data. One account per person. Your name and photo must be genuine: the platform’s entire trust system (reviews, reports, blocking) relies on the person you are messaging being the same one who shows up.
- Signing in. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your phone or email. Do not give the code to anyone. The account is personal: do not transfer it or let others use it.
- If you lose access or suspect that someone else is using your account, write to support@tripsapp.lt without delay.
- Deletion. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Delete account. Before that, cancel or complete your upcoming rides and bookings: when you delete your account they are cancelled automatically, which may be an unpleasant surprise for the other side.
4. Trips’ role, and what Trips does not do
Trips is only a place for connecting. The ride agreement is made between the driver and the passenger themselves; we are not part of that agreement and are not a party to it.
Specifically, we do not:
- act as a carrier, travel agency, or taxi service, and do not provide transport services;
- verify drivers’ identities, driving licences, criminal records, or driving history;
- check the technical condition, registration, or insurance of vehicles;
- employ, train, manage, or assign tasks to drivers;
- insure passengers, drivers, or their belongings;
- guarantee that a ride will take place, that it will be on time, or that the other side will behave as agreed.
Routes, times, descriptions, and profiles are provided by the users themselves. We do not check them in advance and are not responsible for their accuracy, but we remove content that we learn violates these terms (Sections 13 and 14).
5. Cost-sharing, not commercial carriage
This is a fundamental condition of using the platform. Trips is for people who are driving anyway and fill their empty seats by sharing the ride’s costs.
- Upper limit. The amount collected from all passengers may not exceed the actual costs of that ride (fuel, road and bridge tolls, vehicle depreciation), and the driver must cover their own share of the ride. In other words, after the ride the driver cannot have made a profit.
- Suggested price. The app suggests a price based on a cost benchmark (about 0,19 €/km, divided among the passengers) and warns when the entered price significantly exceeds it. The suggestion is help, not permission: the driver is responsible for ensuring that the final price complies with this section.
- Payment. The passenger pays the driver directly, in cash or by another method they choose. Trips does not accept, hold, or transfer money, takes no commission or intermediary fee, and using the platform is free.
- Prohibited commercial activity. The platform may not be used to provide professional passenger transport, taxi, or ride-hailing services for payment, to carry parcels for a fee, to advertise your business, or to solicit customers. This is a gross violation of the rules.
- Taxes and permits. If, despite this section, your activity were nonetheless deemed commercial, you are yourself responsible for the necessary permits, licences, insurance, and taxes.
6. Posting a ride (for drivers)
By posting a ride you confirm that:
- you hold a valid driving licence and the right to drive the specified vehicle;
- the vehicle is technically sound, registered, and insured as required by law, including for the passengers carried;
- the number of seats does not exceed that stated in the registration documents and every passenger will have a seat belt;
- the route, stops, departure time, and price are stated honestly and accurately.
You give this confirmation in the app before publishing your first ride; the moment of that confirmation is recorded.
Stops and segments
By adding intermediate stops you allow passengers to book individual segments. The price for such a segment is calculated in proportion to the distance; if you wish, you can set your own price for individual segments. Seat hold lets you keep some seats for passengers travelling the whole route until 6 hours before departure; this is your choice, not our rule.
Recurring rides
You can mark a ride as weekly. You are responsible for keeping the automatically created rides accurate: if your plans change, pause or cancel them in advance.
Descriptions
In the ride notes you can indicate a meeting point, conditions for luggage or pets, and similar matters. You may not provide contacts for communication outside the platform before a booking, place advertising, or set conditions that conflict with Section 13.
7. Booking
- Request and confirmation. The passenger submits a booking request; the driver confirms or declines it. Submitting a request and declining it create no obligations.
- Instant booking. A driver can enable the “Instant” flag; then requests are confirmed automatically. Such confirmation is valid in exactly the same way as a manual one.
- When the agreement becomes binding. Once a booking is confirmed, the driver undertakes to carry the passenger over the agreed segment, and the passenger undertakes to arrive at the agreed time and pay the agreed cost contribution. This commitment is between the two of them.
- Price. The price shown at booking is final for that segment and number of seats. The driver cannot demand more than was shown and cannot raise the price during the ride.
- When there are no seats. You can create a route alert and receive a notification when someone posts a suitable ride. An alert is not a booking and does not guarantee a seat.
8. Cancellation and no-show
Since the platform does not accept money, we do not administer penalties or refunds. Instead, cancellations are visible and have reputational consequences.
- A passenger can cancel a booking at any time. Cancel as early as possible: the seat returns to the ride and someone else may still be able to book it.
- A driver can cancel the entire ride or an individual booking. A cancellation less than 24 hours before departure is recorded on the account; repeated cancellations of this kind may result in a restriction on posting rides or in removal of the account.
- No-show. If a passenger does not arrive at the agreed place within a reasonable time from their own boarding moment, the driver can mark them as a no-show and drive on. Misuse of this flag is a violation of the rules.
- Unforeseen events. Illness, an accident, a breakdown, or the weather happen. In such cases we expect one thing: that you immediately write to the other side in the chat.
9. The ride day
- The driver can mark “on my way” and “arrived”, indicate the precise meeting point, and inform passengers of a delay.
- When boarding, the passenger shows the boarding code; the driver enters it in the app. The code is the simplest way to make sure that the person getting into the car is the same one who booked.
- Payment is made directly, by the method agreed between the driver and passenger (Section 5).
- After arrival, the driver marks the ride as completed. Only then does the option to leave a review open.
10. Safety
Meeting a stranger in person is the main risk of this service. We cannot eliminate it; we can provide tools and clearly say what depends on you.
- Keep messaging on the platform until you are sure: the chat remains evidence if anything happens.
- Before getting in, check the licence plate and the vehicle description; use the boarding code.
- Tell someone close to you who you are travelling with and where; the app has a ride-sharing button.
- Wear your seat belt. A driver has no right to carry more passengers than there are seats with belts in the car.
- Never drive, and never ride with a driver, while impaired by alcohol or other substances. If you suspect this, refuse the ride and report it to us.
- If you feel unsafe during a ride, ask to stop in a safe place. Your right to end the ride does not depend on whether you have already paid.
- In case of urgent danger, call 112. Trips is not an emergency service and does not respond to reports in real time.
Women can search for rides where the driver has marked “women only”. This flag relies on information provided by the users themselves and is not verified by us, so it is not a safety guarantee.
11. Reviews and ratings
- A review can be left only after a ride that actually took place, and only about the other side of it.
- Reviews are double-blind: you will not see the other person’s review until you write your own. Both are published at the same time, and if only one side writes within 14 days, that one is published. This keeps a review from becoming revenge for a review.
- Write about the ride itself. Reviews containing personal data, insults, blackmail (“I’ll change it if…”), or false accusations are removed.
- It is prohibited to ask for reviews in exchange for payment, to trade in them, or to write them for yourself.
- We do not edit or delete a published review on request, but only when it violates these terms.
12. Your content
Everything you post (profile, ride descriptions, messages, photos, reviews) remains yours. So that we can provide the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and forward that content to the users it is intended for. The licence ends when you delete the content, except to the extent we are required to keep it for security or legal obligations (see the Privacy Policy).
By posting content you confirm that you have the right to do so and that you are not violating other people’s rights, including in photos showing other persons.
13. Rules of conduct: zero tolerance
We do not tolerate offensive, discriminatory, threatening, sexual, or otherwise harmful content or harassment, no exceptions. This applies to messages, photos, profiles, ride descriptions, reviews, and conduct during the ride itself.
Prohibited
- threats, violence, stalking, intimidation;
- hate speech and discrimination based on nationality, race, language, religion, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation;
- sexual-content messages or propositions directed at a specific person;
- publishing other people’s contacts, photos, or conversations without consent;
- fraud: fabricated rides, requests for advance payment, pressure to pay outside the platform, links to payment pages;
- carrying illegal items or substances, asking a passenger to transport something without their knowledge;
- advertising, mass messaging, soliciting customers;
- using someone else’s identity, fake profiles, multiple accounts for one person;
- scraping data with bots, circumventing protections, load testing, attempts to access others’ accounts;
- creating an account anew after removal.
How we enforce this
- The most severe insults are rejected by an automatic filter before publishing, in all four languages.
- Sending-rate limits apply, protecting against spam and mass messaging.
- You can block any user; then they can no longer message you, and your rides are no longer visible to each other.
- You can report any user, message, ride, or review in the app. We review reports and take action within 24 hours.
14. Measures, decisions, and appeals
Having established a violation, we may, depending on its severity:
- remove content or a ride;
- issue a warning;
- restrict features (for example, posting rides or sending messages);
- temporarily suspend or permanently remove the account.
In cases of threats, sexual content directed at a person, discriminatory abuse, and fraud, we remove the account immediately, without warning.
Reasons for the decision. We notify you of any measure applied to your content or account and state the reason, unless the law does not allow us to or doing so would endanger another person.
Appeal. Think we got it wrong? Write to support@tripsapp.lt. The complaint is reviewed by a human, not a machine, within one week. We reverse a decision when it was in fact mistaken. If we do not change the decision, you retain the right to turn to consumer dispute bodies or a court (Section 18).
Misuse of the reporting system (false or revenge reports) is itself a violation.
15. Intellectual property
The app, website, the name “Trips”, the logo, and the design belong to us or our licensors. You are granted a personal, non-transferable right to use the app in accordance with these terms, nothing more. Do not reproduce, copy, or distribute the app’s code; do not use our marks without written consent.
16. Service availability and changes
- The service is provided free of charge and as is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation: there are outages, updates, and maintenance work.
- We may change, add, or remove features. We notify you of material changes that worsen your position in the app or by email in advance, usually 30 days beforehand.
- We may update these terms. The current version is always published at this address with its update date. By continuing to use the service after a change takes effect, you agree to the new version; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.
- We may discontinue the service entirely. In that case we notify you at least 30 days in advance and give you time to download your data.
17. Liability
We are responsible for the platform working as described and for our own intentional acts and gross negligence. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:
- users’ behaviour, the accuracy of the information they post, and the performance of their mutual agreements;
- harm to health, property, or belongings suffered during or because of a ride;
- a ride that did not take place, was cancelled, or was delayed, and the costs incurred as a result;
- lost income, missed opportunities, and other indirect damage;
- failures whose cause is beyond our control (communications providers, operating systems, force majeure).
Nothing in this section is to be read as limiting liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for harm to life or health and consumer rights arising from mandatory provisions.
If third parties bring claims against us on account of your violation of these terms or the law, you will reimburse us for the reasonable costs incurred as a result.
18. Applicable law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Lithuania. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection afforded by the mandatory provisions of your country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings before the court of your place of residence.
First write to us at support@tripsapp.lt. We respond to consumer inquiries within 14 days. If we cannot reach an agreement, consumers can turn to the Valstybinė vartotojų teisių apsaugos tarnyba (State Consumer Rights Protection Authority, vvtat.lt) or to a court. Complaints related to personal data are handled by the Valstybinė duomenų apsaugos inspekcija (State Data Protection Inspectorate, vdai.lrv.lt).
19. Final provisions
- If any provision is held invalid, the remaining ones stay in force.
- The fact that we do not exercise a right immediately does not mean we waive it.
- You may not transfer your rights and obligations under these terms. We may transfer them in the event of a business reorganisation, with prior notice.
- We send you notices in the app, by email, or by SMS. Write to us at support@tripsapp.lt or at [[korespondencijos adresas]].
